UK Churches Launch Month of Prayer for 2026
Thousands of churches and believers across the UK are being encouraged to start the New Year in united prayer as part of a nationwide initiative organised by the National Day of Prayer and Worship (NDOPW).
The movement has announced a month-long prayer vigil running from 5 January to 5 February, calling Christians to seek renewed unity, spiritual awakening, and divine direction for 2026.
The extended vigil builds on the growing participation seen in NDOPW’s recent efforts including a 72-hour prayer watch over Halloween that drew large numbers both in-person and online, as well as the upcoming Shine Your Light three-day Christmas prayer event from 12–14 December.
Daily Virtual Sessions and Community Gatherings
Throughout the month, participants will be able to join daily online prayer meetings, local church gatherings, and intercessory groups organized in different regions. The emphasis, organizers say, is on praying together across denominations and communities.
“This month-long vigil is an invitation for believers to seek God for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit in 2026,” said Pastor Jonathan Oloyede, NDOPW founder and convener. “It is also an opportunity to deepen unity as Christians from different churches gather to pray for their neighborhoods, the nation, and what God is doing globally.”
A Growing National Prayer Network
NDOPW began in 2006 with a historic gathering at Wembley Stadium, and has since developed a nationwide network of partner churches and volunteers committed to prayer across cities, towns, and rural areas.
Today, the movement hosts digital prayer rooms, twice-daily online prayer at 7am and 7pm, and a monthly virtual night of prayer that consistently draws significant engagement.

Linked to National Evangelism Efforts
The New Year vigil will complement the annual Shine Your Light Christmas campaign, which encourages churches to take carols, outreach activities, and festive events into public places such as high streets and markets. This year’s initiative has support from over 60 Christian networks and denominations.
A Growing Hunger for Spiritual Renewal
Pastor Oloyede said the momentum seen in 2025 reflects a deepening desire for prayer and revival across the UK.
“We have witnessed God move powerfully through this year’s prayer initiatives, especially during the three-day Halloween vigil,” he said. “So many in our nation are searching for hope in an uncertain season.”
He added that churches across regions are collaborating more than ever, with hundreds joining online at any moment during recent vigils.
“As we enter a new season, we believe the Lord is calling us to press deeper for transformation in our communities, in government, and in the hearts of people across the UK,” he said.
