Truth or Falsehood? Prophet Funsho Akande Refutes Claims About Apostle Ayo Babalola’s Death

The Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) community has been stirred by a recent controversy following a viral video where Reverend Omoleyin made bold claims about the death of Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, the first General Evangelist of CAC.

In the circulating clip, Reverend Omoleyin alleged that Prophet Funsho Akande the son of the late Prophet Akande, popularly known as Baba Abiye told him that he was ten years old when Apostle Babalola passed away. According to him, Babalola died due to stress, requested a cover net from Baba Abiye but was not provided one, and that the bed on which Babalola last slept was sold by CAC to Hausa people.

However, Prophet Funsho Akande has come forward to debunk the claims, describing Omoleyin’s statements as false and misleading. Speaking in a separate video, Akande set the record straight:

  • He was only three years old when Apostle Babalola died in 1959, not ten as alleged.
  • His father, Baba Abiye, did provide a cover net for Babalola, contrary to Omoleyin’s account.
  • Apostle Babalola did not die on Ori Oke Ede Mountain, but rather at Ede, in his father’s house.
  • The bed on which Babalola slept was never sold. According to him, “CAC will never sell its inheritance.”
  • Prophet Akande further explained that he reached out to Reverend Omoleyin privately to take down the video, but Omoleyin refused. Despite this, Akande assured that he would continue to defend the legacy of Apostle Babalola and speak against any falsehood raised about the Church or its spiritual fathers.

This exchange has drawn significant attention online, highlighting the importance of accurately preserving church history. Apostle Ayo Babalola is regarded as one of Nigeria’s greatest revivalists, whose ministry birthed the modern Pentecostal movement in the country. For many within CAC and beyond, his legacy remains sacred and must be shielded from distortion.

As Prophet Akande emphasized, “I will always come out to say the truth anytime someone raises a false message about Apostle Ayo Babalola or CAC. I will always defend the cause of the Church.”

The ongoing debate serves as a reminder of the delicate line between storytelling, memory, and historical accuracy in religious circles.
