Trump Questions Pope Leo’s Anti-War Message
Tensions have risen between Donald Trump and Pope Leo XIV following fresh comments over global conflicts and nuclear concerns.
Trump told reporters on Sunday that he is “not a big fan” of the pope. He portrayed the pope as overly progressive and raised concerns about his views on law enforcement and international affairs. The remarks came shortly after the pontiff made a strong appeal for peace amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
At the Vatican, Pope Leo urged world leaders to reject violence. Speaking to worshippers at St Peter’s Basilica, he called for an end to what he described as the obsession with power and wealth. He stressed that war only brings suffering and urged nations to return to dialogue.
However, Trump pushed back. He accused the pope of being soft on issues like nuclear threats. He said he does not support any position that appears to tolerate countries like Iran developing nuclear weapons.
Soon after, Trump repeated his criticism on Truth Social. He claimed the pope is weak on crime and ineffective on foreign policy. He also suggested that the Catholic Church chose an American pope to better relate with his administration.

In a separate post, Trump shared an AI generated image of himself in a Christ like role. The image showed him in religious robes appearing to heal a man. This added to the controversy and drew mixed reactions online.
Meanwhile, both Washington and the Vatican have tried to calm reports of a deeper conflict. Officials on both sides insist that recent diplomatic engagements were respectful. A Vatican spokesman dismissed claims of a tense meeting between church representatives and US defense officials, calling such reports inaccurate.
Still, clear differences remain. The pope has openly criticized strict immigration policies and the use of force in global conflicts. He has also warned against extreme rhetoric, especially comments that suggest large scale destruction.
Earlier, Pope Leo welcomed signs of a possible ceasefire between the United States and Iran. Yet talks held in Islamabad ended without agreement, raising fresh concerns about stability in the region.
As a result, this public exchange highlights a deeper divide. On one side is a political leader focused on security and national interest. On the other is a spiritual leader calling for peace, restraint, and compassion.
The situation continues to develop, with both voices shaping global conversations around war, leadership, and moral responsibility.
