Tragedy as Guest Dies After Sudden Collapse at Niger Government House Lodge
A shocking incident occurred in Minna, Niger State, on Friday night when a man identified as Gregory died shortly after collapsing inside one of the lodges located within the state’s Government House premises.
According to available reports, Gregory had visited the Government House to meet with the chairman of the Niger Food Security Systems and Logistics Company Limited, Mr. Sammy Adigun. Sources say that shortly after he was informed that Mr. Adigun was unavailable, Gregory appeared unwell and soon lost consciousness inside the lodge.
Security personnel immediately raised the alarm and contacted emergency responders. Officers from the GRA Police Division were dispatched to the scene while efforts were made to save Gregory’s life. He was quickly transported to the IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna for urgent medical attention. Unfortunately, doctors at the hospital pronounced him dead on arrival despite attempts to resuscitate him.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Niger State, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident. He explained that the police had received a distress call from the Chief Security Officer attached to the Government House around 9:30 pm on August 2, 2025. Upon arrival, officers gathered that the visitor had suffered a sudden medical emergency that led to his death.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary.
Authorities say a post-mortem examination will be carried out to ascertain the exact cause of death, as preliminary reports have not linked the incident to any foul play.
The sudden passing of Gregory has left many shocked, as questions linger about what could have triggered his collapse. Neither the Niger State Government nor Mr. Adigun has issued an official statement beyond the police report.
This unexpected death inside a secured Government House facility has sparked conversations among residents of Minna, with many expressing concern over the tragic event and awaiting further details from the ongoing investigation.
