THE LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE 27/10/2025

MAJORING ON THE MINOR (III)

MEMORISE: Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel (Ezra 7:10).

READ: Exodus 18:18-20

EXPOSITION
The third counsel Jethro gave Moses was to show the people the way to walk and the work to do. This is a biblical order for effective leadership. This involves living an exemplary life and instructing others on the work to be done. The former facilitates the latter. The leader is expected to be the mirror for the people, and leadership requires being ahead in all aspects.

The deeds of Jesus came first before his teachings (Acts 1:1); Ezra did the same; his heart was prepared to seek the Law of the LORD and to do them before teaching the people the same Law and the Apostles demonstrated this principle (Acts 4:13; 20:35). Action speaks louder than voice, and this applies to both secular and spiritual leadership. The Bible teaches us to lead by example, showing others the way through our actions.

Preaching becomes effective and result-oriented when the leader lives a life in consonance with the Word of God. A leader’s private life can spread and influence others greatly, so it should be kept pure and bright, like a clean
