Shooting Stars Assistant Coach Olowokere Dies After Collapsing During Training
The Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of its newly appointed assistant coach, Akin Olowokere.
Olowokere collapsed on Monday morning during the team’s training session in Ibadan, Oyo State. Witnesses said he slumped on the pitch and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.
The cause of his death has not been officially disclosed.
The former Sunshine Stars defender, known for his calm personality and deep tactical knowledge, was unveiled only recently as part of the Oluyole Warriors’ new technical team. He previously worked as an assistant coach under Edith Agoye at Sunshine Stars after a long playing career with the Akure-based club.

In a statement, the management of 3SC described Olowokere as “a dedicated and passionate football tactician” who was also “a mentor, friend, and father figure” to many. The club praised his short but impactful contribution to the team and pledged to preserve his legacy.
“Our hearts are heavy. We extend our condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Nigerian football family,” the statement read.
The Oyo State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) also paid tribute, calling his death a “huge loss” to Nigerian football. SWAN noted that Olowokere’s commitment to developing players and his influence in the sport would be remembered for years.
Olowokere’s passing has left a deep void in the football community, with tributes pouring in from across the country.
