Sanwo Olu Calls for Deep Prayer at Lent
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged Christians to embrace prayer and spiritual renewal as Lent begins. He asked believers to seek forgiveness and stay strong in faith despite the nation’s challenges.
He spoke during an Ash Wednesday service organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Home Affairs at the State House Church in Alausa Ikeja. The service marked the start of the Lenten season. Government officials and Christian faithful gathered for worship and reflection.
Represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff Sam Abube, the governor described Lent as a time for sober reflection and repentance. He encouraged Christians to focus on Jesus Christ and remain hopeful in every situation.
Meanwhile the President Chaplain of Chapel of Christ the Light Rev Dr Dele Ajayi delivered the sermon. Preaching from First Kings chapter eighteen verse thirty he called on believers to repair what he described as broken altars in their lives. He stressed the need for spiritual revival and personal renewal.

Ajayi reminded the congregation that every person has a divine purpose. According to him no one exists by accident. He urged Christians to use the season to reconnect with God and rediscover their calling.
In addition he noted that major religions in the country observe fasting around the same period. He described this as a moment for unity and national prayer. He said Nigerians must take responsibility for the future of the country through faith and action.
Also present was Bishop Taiwo Ajose Special Adviser to the Lagos State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria. He described Ash Wednesday as the beginning of a forty day journey of fasting prayer and repentance leading to Easter.
Ajose called on Christians to pray for Lagos State and Nigeria. He expressed hope that sincere devotion would bring peace progress and divine blessings to the land.
Prayers were offered for President Bola Tinubu his family the governor his family Lagos State and the nation.
As Lent begins leaders say now is the time for reflection unity and renewed faith.
