Russian Missile Strike on Ukrainian Training Base Leaves Casualties
Ukraine’s military has reported that a Russian missile strike on one of its training bases claimed the lives of several soldiers and left others wounded. The late-night attack on Tuesday killed three servicemen and injured 18 more, according to official sources.
The army did not reveal the exact location of the strike. However, Ukrainian journalist Andrei Taplienko suggested it happened in the Chernihiv region, close to the Russian and Belarusian borders.
Russia’s defence ministry later shared a video claiming it captured the moment an Iskander ballistic missile struck the area, triggering multiple cluster-type explosions. The footage has not been independently verified, and Moscow maintains that Ukrainian losses were far higher than Kyiv has reported.

“Despite strict safety measures, we were unable to prevent all casualties,” Ukraine’s ground forces stated on social media following the attack.
This marks the third time in just over two months that a Ukrainian training site has been targeted by Russian missiles. In May, six soldiers were killed in Sumy after a similar strike. Another attack last month killed 12 personnel and injured 60 others, leading to the resignation of ground forces commander Mykhailo Drapatyi. He described the victims as mostly young trainees who were inside shelters when the missile hit.
Military officials have promised an internal investigation to determine whether mistakes or negligence contributed to Tuesday’s fatalities . The repeated strikes highlight the ongoing difficulty of keeping Ukrainian troops safe during drills while under constant threat of Russian attacks.
