RCCG Offers Scholarship to Children in Lagos Slum

The Redeemed Christian Church of God has launched a scholarship and youth rehabilitation program for children living at the Olusosun Landfill in Lagos State. The initiative forms part of activities marking the 84th birthday of its General Overseer, Enoch Adeboye. Through its social platform, Reach4Christ, the church is taking direct steps to support vulnerable families in the Olusosun community. This move is a signal of strong commitment to education and social reform in one of the state’s most underserved areas.
In many landfill communities, children face harsh living conditions and limited access to school. As a result, many grow up without structure or guidance. To change this narrative, the church introduced a preparatory class system that helps children transition smoothly into public primary schools. Trained teachers now deliver lessons in reading and mathematics within a structured learning space inside the community. In addition, the organizers’ supply books and writing materials to support daily learning. These efforts aim to build a solid academic foundation from the start.

However, education alone does not solve the deeper social risks. Many young people in high-risk areas encounter drug abuse and cult influence early in life. For this reason, the program also promotes drug awareness education, mentorship and guided counseling. Faith based character development further strengthens the support system. By combining academic training with moral guidance, the initiative encourages responsible decision making and positive life choices.
Financial hardship often forces children out of school. Therefore, the church provides full scholarship support to eligible pupils who gain admission into public primary schools within the Olusosun and Ikosi area. The scholarship covers enrollment costs, uniforms, books and essential supplies. This direct support removes barriers that prevent steady attendance. More importantly, it allows families to focus on long term academic growth instead of short-term survival.
The Olusosun community remains home to thousands of residents who struggle daily with uncertainty. Yet this intervention offers a clear path forward. By investing in education and youth development, the program creates real opportunities for children to rise above their present circumstances. Ultimately, it restores hope and strengthens the future of a community that needs it most.
