Putin Bans All Satanic Temples Nationwide in Russia

Russia has formally outlawed all satanic organizations and places of worship after the country’s Supreme Court ruled that the International Movement of Satanists operates as an extremist group. The decision, backed by President Vladimir Putin’s administration, marks the latest step in a continuing campaign to restrict ideologies the Kremlin considers dangerous or socially destructive.

The ruling followed a request from Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov, whose office argued that the movement’s teachings and activities pose a threat to Russia’s religious and cultural foundations. In a statement released after the verdict, the Prosecutor General’s Office confirmed that the court had fully supported its petition to label the organization as extremist and block its presence nationwide.

According to authorities, the group promotes an ideology that runs counter to the country’s long-standing religious traditions. Officials said the movement encourages hostility toward Russia’s major faith communities, which include the Russian Orthodox Church, Islam, Judaism, and Buddhism. By classifying it as an extremist entity, the government has effectively prohibited all satanic temples, rituals, gatherings, and related operations within Russian borders.

Russian leaders have increasingly emphasized the need to safeguard what they describe as “traditional values” in the face of cultural and ideological influences they deem harmful. The crackdown on the Satanist organization follows a series of recent actions targeting groups, media outlets, and individuals accused of spreading radical or destabilizing ideas.

Supporters of the ban argue it will help preserve Russia’s moral fabric and protect citizens from influences seen as corrosive to family and spiritual life. Critics, however, note that the government’s expanding definition of extremism has been used to silence a wide range of organizations, including those with political or religious views that simply diverge from the state’s preferred narrative.

The ruling takes effect immediately, with law-enforcement agencies authorized to enforce the prohibition across all regions of the country.
