Priscilla Otti Launches Immunization Campaign For Kids

The wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti, has called on mothers across the state to prioritise immunisation as a vital step in protecting their children’s health and securing their future.

Speaking during the official launch of the National Immunisation Plus Days (NIPDs) at the Aba South Local Government Secretariat, Mrs Otti, represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Adaeze Emetu, reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to child health and well-being.

The event was organised by the Abia State Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, State Ministry of Health, Ministry of Women Affairs, and other key stakeholders.

Mrs Otti stressed the importance of eradicating polio and ensuring that every child in the state has unrestricted access to vaccines. She lauded Governor Alex Otti for prioritising children’s health through the provision of free vaccines at primary health care centres and the ongoing upgrades of healthcare facilities across the state.

She also commended the efforts of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency for its pivotal role in mobilising and executing the immunisation campaign.

In a message delivered on behalf of the Commissioner for Health, Dr Enoch Uche, the Chief Medical Director of Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Professor Ijeoma Nduka, highlighted the government’s health sector reforms. These include the implementation of the Abia State Health Insurance Scheme and the revitalisation of primary healthcare centres, both key strategies aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery.

The Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Kalu Ulu Kalu, reaffirmed Abia’s determination to completely eliminate polio. He urged parents and carers to participate fully in the Immunisation Plus Days, assuring them that trained health workers have been deployed across communities to ensure every child is vaccinated.

Dr Kalu also emphasised the safety and efficacy of the oral polio vaccine, calling on local communities to take ownership of the campaign, particularly at the grassroots level.

Mrs Uchechi Enyinnaya, Health Authority Secretary of Aba South LGA, praised Mrs Otti for her advocacy and support in polio eradication efforts. She also appreciated Governor Otti for his transformative governance and prayed for continued success in his leadership.

The ceremony featured the symbolic immunisation of infants and the formal declaration of the campaign’s commencement and was attended by traditional leaders, medical professionals, and senior government officials.
