Patrick Dorgu: “My Christian faith guides me on and off the pitch”
Manchester United defender Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu says his Christian faith remains the foundation of his life both in football and beyond.
In a recent interview with club journalist Mark Sullivan, the young Danish-Nigerian star described faith as his “constant source of strength.”
“It means a lot to me,” Dorgu said. “It’s always been a big part of my life and my family. I’ve been praying since I was young, and I still keep praying.”

Dorgu, who joined Manchester United in January, has been open about his identity and values. He now embraces his full Igbo name, Chinazaekpere which translates to “God answers prayers” as a nod to his Nigerian heritage and deep faith.
He explained that he tries to attend Sunday services whenever his football schedule allows. “I always try to be there as much as I can,” he said, noting that prayer keeps him focused through victories and setbacks alike.
Reflecting on his move to Old Trafford, Dorgu said he believes it was no coincidence. “I always think God has a plan for everything,” he added. “When United came for me in January, I knew it was meant to be.”
For Dorgu, football and faith remain inseparable a reminder that even under the bright lights of Old Trafford, his journey is guided by something far greater than the game itself.
