Pastor Kumuyi Revises Deeper Life Marriage Guidelines, Calls Them Administrative
Pastor William Kumuyi, leader of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has declared that the church’s marriage rules are not biblical commands but internal policies meant to guide members.
At the 2025 Global Family and Marriage Conference on Sunday, August 31, he announced that one of the long-standing restrictions barring women from visiting their suitors has been lifted. Couples preparing for marriage may now visit one another, provided they are accompanied by a church elder.
Pastor Kumuyi also addressed the long-debated six-month courtship requirement. He explained that the timeline was only introduced by church leaders as a framework but was never rooted in scripture. According to him, couples should not treat such policies as divine laws.

“It was simply a human arrangement to give intending couples time to know themselves,” he noted, stressing that modifying the duration does not conflict with the Bible.
The respected cleric urged believers to recognize the difference between God’s word and church traditions. He warned that holding human rules as sacred could mislead young Christians.
Pastor Kumuyi further clarified that marriage committees in the church exist to give guidance, not to enforce biblical law. He added that such committees were created for orderliness and should never assume powers beyond what scripture allows.
“There is no marriage committee in the New Testament,” he said. “What we have is an administrative tool to support members, not a command from the Bible.”
He advised church leaders to remain cautious, reminding them that administrative decisions must never overshadow God’s commandments.
