Pastor Kingsley Defends Bible Tattoo Amid Backlash
Founder of David Christian Centre, Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, has addressed criticism from fellow ministers over his recent Bible-inspired tattoo. The tattoo, showing John 3:16 in Roman numerals, III: XVI, was shared in a video online and sparked mixed reactions.
“Regarding my tattoo, only a couple of ministers truly understood my reasons. Most reacted based on religion alone,” he said.
Some ministers reportedly questioned whether getting a tattoo was necessary or appropriate. Okonkwo described such comments as insulting and short-sighted.
To justify his choice, he referenced other Christian leaders with tattoos. “Joyce Meyer got her tattoo at eight years old, and Max Lucado at seventy. Am I somehow above them?” he asked.

He explained that sharing the tattoo publicly aligns with his personal calling and the expectations of his audience. Okonkwo stressed that individual choices and styles should not be judged or compared. “I posted it because my position, my calling, and my constituency require it. Christianity has different styles. It is not only your style that matters. You don’t want to wear shoes so what? I want to wear shoes. How does that affect anybody’s faith?” he added.
The pastor concluded that personal expression and faith can coexist. He encouraged people to make choices that reflect their individuality without being criticized.
