Oyo Police Disburses ₦20.12bn To Families Of Fallen Officers
The Oyo State Police Command has disbursed a total of ₦20.12 billion to 7,076 widows and families of deceased officers as part of efforts to support the dependents of fallen heroes.
Commissioner of Police, Johnson Adenola, made the announcement during a cheque presentation ceremony held at the command headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan. He described the event as a testament to the Nigerian Police Force’s unwavering commitment under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to the welfare of the families left behind by late officers.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved families, CP Adenola acknowledged the heavy emotional and financial toll of losing a loved one in the line of duty. He noted that while financial compensation cannot replace the deceased, the support aims to ease the burden and offer some measure of comfort during difficult times.
“To the families of our fallen heroes, we deeply sympathize with your loss. These cheques represent a gesture of solidarity and a commitment to your welfare,” he said.

Adenola also gave assurances that all outstanding claims for families yet to be reached or fully paid would be addressed promptly. He highlighted a major innovation recently introduced by the Nigerian Police: the Insurance Claim Management Portal. The platform, initiated under IGP Egbetokun, is designed to improve transparency, eliminate delays, and streamline the processing of benefits.
“This digital platform is a game-changer in the way insurance claims are handled within the force. By leveraging technology, we are ensuring quicker access to entitlements and reducing the challenges previously faced in the process,” he added.
The commissioner concluded by appreciating the Inspector General for his focus on the welfare of both serving and retired personnel, as well as for prioritizing support to the families of deceased officers.
