NBA Demands Justice for Assaulted Corps Member in Anambra
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called for justice over the assault of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Ms. Jennifer Elobor, in Anambra State.
In a statement signed by its President, Afam Osigwe (SAN), and General Secretary, Dr. Mobolaji Ojibara, the association described the attack as degrading and inhumane. It insisted that the security operatives involved must face prosecution.
The NBA condemned the incident, which left Elobor battered and stripped of her clothing. It said the act violated her dignity and fundamental human rights guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution.
“Security agencies have the duty to maintain law and order,” the statement read. “But this mandate must never be exercised in a way that tramples on the rights of innocent citizens.”

The association stressed that even during arrests, the law requires procedures that protect human dignity. It noted that the viral video showing Elobor’s ordeal negates those safeguards and insults human decency.
While commending the Anambra State Government for swiftly identifying and arresting the culprits, the NBA emphasized that accountability must go beyond arrests. It called for diligent prosecution to serve as justice for Elobor and as a deterrent to future abuses.
The NBA also urged the government to strengthen mechanisms that prevent human rights violations. It highlighted the need for continuous training and reorientation of security personnel on professionalism and respect for citizens.
It directed its branches in Anambra and the National Litigation Committee to monitor the case closely.
“We reaffirm our commitment to defending the rule of law, safeguarding human dignity, and ensuring justice for Ms. Elobor,” the statement concluded.
