Nathaniel Bassey Speaks Out on Hallelujah challenge Criticism

Pastor Nathaniel Bassey has issued a strong warning to critics of the Hallelujah Challenge, saying those who oppose the global prayer movement risk inviting divine consequences.

Speaking during Day 11 of the online worship program, Bassey said this year’s edition has encountered unusual resistance. He suggested the pushback reflects spiritual opposition rather than ordinary criticism.

According to him, those who mock or attempt to hinder the initiative should tread carefully. Drawing from biblical accounts, he referenced stories where individuals who ridiculed God’s servants faced immediate repercussions. He declared that anyone deliberately working against the Hallelujah Challenge could face God’s judgment.

The Hallelujah Challenge, a midnight praise and prayer gathering streamed online, has attracted millions of participants across different countries since its launch. Bassey noted that the program began this year with 24 hours of uninterrupted praise, describing it as a spiritual statement that cannot be silenced.

His remarks come amid differing views from some Christian leaders. Earlier, Joshua Mary Ugbedeojo Abuh advised Catholics to refrain from joining the initiative during Lent, citing concerns about alignment with Catholic spiritual practices.

Responding indirectly, Bassey urged critics to allow willing participants to worship freely. He maintained that those uninterested in the program should simply ignore it rather than oppose it.

Quoting biblical references about Judah and praise, he stressed that worship remains central to the Christian faith. He added that the intensity of criticism, in his view, underscores the spiritual impact of the gathering.

The pastor concluded by encouraging supporters to remain steadfast. He said the movement is focused on prayer and praise, not controversy, and called on believers to continue seeking God without distraction.
