Global Network Calls Church to Rekindle Movement Spirit
Two thousand years after Jesus launched a global movement, the Motus Dei Network is calling the Church to reignite its original, Spirit-driven mission.
Their new statement, titled “Reactivating the Church as Movement,” urges Christians worldwide to move beyond institutional maintenance and return to the disciple-making dynamism of the early Church.
Drafted in early 2025 by nine scholars and ministry leaders, the document was refined through global collaboration. Feedback from the Motus Dei Network and its May symposium helped ensure biblical depth, cultural relevance, and practical clarity. Finalized in September, it is now being shared worldwide and translated into several languages.
The statement reminds believers that Christianity has always thrived when ordinary people share their faith in everyday life, gather simply, and raise new leaders who do the same.
At its core, “Reactivating the Church as Movement” outlines twelve affirmations that drive gospel growth including the centrality of Jesus, Scripture as foundation, disciples making disciples, Spirit-led adaptability, and perseverance in prayer and suffering. Each principle highlights a return to simplicity, multiplication, and faithfulness.

The statement’s contributors include leading voices in global missions such as Dave Coles, Dr. Michael T. Cooper, Dr. David Garrison, Dr. Evelyn Hibbert, Alan Hirsch, Victor John, Tim Martin, Dr. Aila Tasse, and Dr. Wes Watkins.
The Motus Dei Network describes itself as a “global learn tank” uniting scholars and practitioners who study and catalyze disciple-making movements. Through research, consultations, and resources, it seeks to help the Church embrace Spirit-led multiplication rather than maintenance.
Beyond affirmations, the network challenges believers to reflect: What traditions or structures hinder multiplication? How can churches rediscover movement dynamics in their local contexts?
Ultimately, the statement calls pastors, missionaries, and everyday believers to reimagine church life around prayer, simplicity, and obedience. Its vision is clear to see multiplying communities carry the gospel to every people and place.
“We invite all believers to join this movement journey,” the statement declares, “to make disciples of all nations and transform communities for God’s glory.”
