From Lagos to the World: Nigerian Student Wins $3,000 Toyota Innovation Prize
LAGOS, Nigeria: Precious Aroh, a pupil of Corona School, Gbagada, has earned global recognition after being named a ‘Best Finalist’ in the 18th Toyota Dream Car Art Contest.
Chosen from more than 660,000 contestants worldwide, Precious received a $3,000 prize from Toyota Motor Corporation. The award was presented in Lagos by the Managing Director of Toyota Nigeria Limited (TNL), Kunle Ade-Ojo, alongside her parents and school representatives.
Ade-Ojo praised the young artist’s creativity, describing her design as a vision of hope. “Precious’s artistry has once again placed Nigeria on the global stage. Her masterpiece imagines a world free of illness and viruses like COVID-19. She has shown empathy and brilliant imagination,” he said.

Her entry, called the Virus Vacuum, envisions a futuristic car with suction vents that remove harmful viruses from the air. Inside, the particles are destroyed, releasing clean and safe air. “This car is my dream for a healthier world, a car that not only carries people but also cares for them and heals the environment,” Precious explained.
The TNL boss said her achievement echoes that of David Odumuboni, the first Nigerian to win a Global Grand Prize in the contest two years ago. He also commended her parents and art teacher for their support.
Precious said she plans to use her prize money to buy books, art supplies, and digital tools to sharpen her skills. She also received a shield from Toyota Motor Corporation, along with a certificate and a trophy from Toyota Nigeria.
