FG Orders Re-Verification of 3,598 Civil Servants, Warns of Possible Dismissal

The Federal Government has issued a stern warning to 3,598 civil servants who failed to participate in the 2021 verification exercise, directing them to appear for a fresh screening or risk losing their jobs.

The Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) said the re-verification will hold from Monday, August 18, to Thursday, August 28, 2025, in designated ministries and agencies. Those who fail to show up will be presumed to have secured their positions with fake appointment letters.

In a directive dated August 4 and obtained by our correspondent, the commission instructed all affected officers to confirm their names via the FCSC website, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation’s portal, or notice boards within their respective ministries.

Officers are required to present original and photocopies of vital employment documents, including appointment and promotion letters, gazetted confirmations, staff change letters, and their July 2025 IPPIS payslips.

The FCSC stressed that there would be no further extensions for defaulters. It also noted that those on transfer, secondment, or study leave are not exempted. The commission warned that absence from the exercise will be interpreted as deliberate evasion to conceal irregular employment status.

Records from the commission show that the highest number of affected officers are from the Ministries of Information, Education, and Labour. Others are spread across sectors such as Works, Industry, Health, Environment, Interior, Defence, and the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Government officials say the re-verification aims to maintain integrity in the civil service and ensure that only legitimately employed officers remain on the payroll.
