Faith Through Audio: Sharing the Bible in Chad
The afternoon sun beats down on the streets of N’Djamena as Samuel Mbaye, a 35-year-old security guard and father of five, adjusts the small MP3 player in his hand. While his uniform marks his profession, it is this little device loaded with the Bible that reveals his true calling: sharing God’s Word.
“Jesus is my Lord, is my Savior,” he says with quiet conviction.
In a country like Chad, where religious tensions are real and the literacy rate is around 22 percent, access to Scripture remains a challenge. For believers like Samuel, faith must be both courageous and creative.
“As a Christian, you have to tell the truth,” Samuel says. “But when you do, you may become an enemy to many. Still, you must keep going forward because you follow the will of God.”
With more than 100 spoken languages and a strong oral culture, audio Bibles and memory cards have become essential tools for discipleship. Samuel’s journey with Jesus began in childhood but deepened as he faced hardship and rejection for his faith.
Despite his education, finding work has been difficult. “Even with a degree, there are no jobs,” he explains. “It is not easy.” Still, he finds strength through Scripture. “The Holy Spirit and faith help you walk far with Jesus.”

His MP3 player is not just for personal encouragement. It is his tool for evangelism. Whether at work, home, or in the streets, Samuel plays the audio Bible, drawing in listeners, many hearing God’s Word in their own language for the first time.
“The response is immediate,” he says. “People stop and listen. It brings joy and connection.”
At Global Christian Relief, we partner with local believers like Samuel to distribute audio Bibles, memory cards, and digital resources. Just five dollars can provide a complete Bible and the Jesus film in audio format, life changing tools in a country where books and electricity are scarce.
Samuel prays for revival in Chad. “Pray that the lost will believe. Pray for peace and unity in the body of Christ,” he says.
As night falls over N’Djamena, Samuel heads into another shift. In his pocket is a small device, his lifeline to hope and a reminder that God’s Word is alive and active.
Across Chad, believers like Samuel are proving that faith does not depend on buildings or books. Sometimes, it begins with a voice, a simple device, and the courage to share.
