Every Truth Starts With Opposition — Bishop David Oyedepo
Every Truth First Appears False Before It’s Celebrated — Bishop David Oyedepo
At the Freedom Banquet Service on Sunday, October 12, 2025, held at Faith Tabernacle, Canaanland, Bishop David Oyedepo delivered a powerful message titled “Engaging the Help of the Holy Spirit Towards Fulfillment of Destiny (Part 2A).”
Drawing from Ephesians 5:19 and Romans 8:6, the Bishop emphasized the importance of addressing our spiritual condition above material pursuits.
“It is time to start speaking to ourselves,” he said. “Why is my life not lining up with the Word? When it is well with you spiritually, you are in command supernaturally.”
Bishop Oyedepo declared the service a day of divine visitation:
“The siege over your health, business, and children will be over today,” he proclaimed. “Everything works here, and you belong here.”
Reflecting on the success of Covenant University, which recently held its 20th Convocation Ceremony, Oyedepo attributed every milestone to divine direction and the power of the Holy Spirit.
“By the hand of God, Covenant University is doing what people said cannot be done in Nigeria,” he said. “When God leads, He backs up the led to deliver the task.”
Every Truth First Appears False
Sharing from personal experience, Bishop Oyedepo recalled the fierce opposition he faced when he began teaching on prosperity decades ago.
“When I started preaching prosperity, the whole world was against me,” he said. “The Christian Church in Nigeria was fighting itself—I wasn’t fighting them. But I knew what I saw.”
He likened his experience to that of Jesus and the early apostles who faced persecution for preaching divine truth.
“Every truth first appears false before it gets celebrated,” he continued. “How can you say one can be free in a world of bondage? Yet, when you know the truth, it sets you free.”
The Holy Spirit — Our Most Dependable Helper
Bishop Oyedepo stressed that no believer can fulfill their destiny without the active help of the Holy Spirit.
Quoting Zechariah 4:1–6, he said:
“It is impossible to realize our golden destiny without the help of the Holy Spirit. Every child of God has a glorious, royal, and enviable destiny—not a shameful or pitiable one.”

He urged believers to maintain a meek spirit, describing meekness as the key to divine insight.
“God teaches only the meek,” he explained. “It takes humility to admit that you may be the cause of your own challenges.”
Freedom from the Mentality of Slavery
Addressing the issue of mental limitations, Bishop Oyedepo decried what he called the “slavery mentality” affecting many Africans and believers abroad.
“Lots of folks are suffering in other countries today because of slavery mentality,” he said. “They say, ‘It can’t be done here.’ But is Covenant University not doing it—here in Nigeria? By the hand of God, we are flying without stress or struggle.”
He emphasized the importance of renewing one’s mindset through the Word of God, quoting Proverbs 23:7:
“As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.”
Dominion is Every Believer’s Heritage
In closing, Bishop Oyedepo reaffirmed that every believer is redeemed to reign on the earth.
“My friend, God has ordained you for dominion,” he declared. “Today marks the end of every slavery mentality and disposition. Kings don’t beg in their domain. You are redeemed as a king—begging is not part of you.”
With passion and prophetic authority, he encouraged the congregation to embrace the truth of Scripture, depend on the Holy Spirit, and walk in the fullness of their divine destiny.
“Whether they will hear or forbear,” he concluded, “keep saying what God tells you. Those who don’t understand it today will understand it tomorrow.”
