Evangelical Fellowship of India Calls for Peace

The Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI) has expressed deep sorrow and appealed for peace after a deadly explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort left at least eight people dead and several others wounded on Monday evening.

In a statement issued Tuesday night, EFI General Secretary Rev. Vijayesh Lal said the Christian community is “deeply grieved by this heartbreaking loss of life” and is standing in prayer with the families of those killed, the injured, and all residents of the capital shaken by the violence.

Rev. Lal condemned the attack, calling it a “senseless act” that has caused widespread fear.
“We strongly denounce this tragic incident. Violence that claims innocent lives has no place in our society,” he said. “We pray for truth to emerge quickly and for justice to be served.”

Investigation Underway as Authorities Tighten Security

According to BBC reports, Delhi Police said the explosion occurred when a slow-moving vehicle stopped at a traffic signal near a metro station close to the Red Fort, one of India’s most iconic tourist sites. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has assumed control of the investigation under anti-terror legislation. The Red Fort has been closed to visitors for three days as security agencies continue their inquiries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed that those behind the attack “will not be spared,” while Home Minister Amit Shah led a high-level security meeting with senior officials, promising that authorities would “hunt down every culprit.”

EFI Praises Emergency Responders

In its statement, EFI acknowledged the swift response of law enforcement personnel, medical teams, and first responders who acted “with courage and commitment in the face of chaos.”

Appeal for Peace Across Communities

The fellowship urged citizens to resist fear, anger, and attempts to inflame communal tensions.
“In this moment of national grief, we call on all communities to remain calm, uphold peace, and reject any effort to spread hatred or division,” EFI said. “As people of faith, let us stand together in solidarity, healing, and reconciliation.”

EFI also encouraged churches and Christian institutions nationwide to continue praying for the victims, their families, and the authorities leading the ongoing investigation.
