Evangelical Christians Make History in Argentina

Argentina has reached a historic milestone as six evangelical Christian leaders have been elected to the National Congress  marking the first time that a faith-driven bloc will hold seats at the national level.

According to Cristianos en Política, citing CNN en Español, the group is led by Pastor and lawyer Nadia Márquez, who was elected Senator for the province of Neuquén. She will be joined by five deputies who share her commitment to Christian values: Gastón Riesco and Soledad Mondaca from Neuquén, Mónica Becerra from San Luis, Miguel Rodríguez from Tierra del Fuego, and Maira Frías from Chubut.

The lawmakers say their goal is to promote policies that defend life, family, and fundamental freedoms.

Senator-elect Márquez told Cristianos en Política that her entry into politics is not about career advancement but calling. “It’s very different to pursue politics as a profession than to enter it as a missionary calling,” she said. “I see this as something God has asked of me and that gives me strength.”

She emphasized that Argentina needs leaders who combine faith with integrity. “Politics requires both technical and moral aptitude,” Márquez said. “Our country needs leaders who can serve with conviction and competence.”

The emergence of the evangelical bloc comes after Sunday’s midterm legislative elections, in which voters renewed 127 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and 24 in the Senate.

President Javier Milei hailed the results as a turning point for the country, describing the incoming Congress as one ready for transformation. “As of December 10, we will have the most reformist Congress in Argentine history,” he said, following his party’s La Libertad Avanza victory with 39% of the national vote well ahead of the Peronist Fuerza Patria coalition at 29.4%.

For Argentina’s growing evangelical community, the new representation signals a shift in influence. The elected leaders say their mission goes beyond politics it’s about bringing biblical principles into public life and shaping a future grounded in faith and integrity.
