ERIO POWER EXPLOSION 2025: Heart – The Battlefield of Good and Evil By Pastor Joseph Folorunsho Omolola

The greatest wars are not fought with bombs or bullets. They are not fought in deserts or jungles. They are fought silently, every day, in a place no human eye can see; the heart.

When a man smiles but is secretly tormented by hate, that war is being fought. When a woman prays but wrestles with bitterness she cannot voice, that war is being fought. When a young person dreams of purity but keeps falling into shameful habits, that war is being fought. This is not a war of flesh and blood; this is the daily tug-of-war between light and darkness, truth and lies, God’s Spirit and man’s sinful nature.

If you’ve ever wondered why you keep doing things you promised God you would never do again, or why peace slips away even in the middle of worship, this message is for you. You’re not alone. You’re not strange. You are simply standing in the middle of the battlefield of the heart; the place where both heaven and hell fight for your soul.

The Nature of the Heart

The heart is not the organ that pumps blood through the body. In Scripture, the heart is the seat of thoughts, intentions, emotions, and decisions. It is the control room of your life. It’s where your values are shaped and your choices are birthed. Jesus said that what we speak flows out of the abundance of our hearts. Everything you see on the outside begins with what you’ve allowed to settle on the inside.

But the Bible also warns us that the heart, in its natural condition, is deceitful and desperately sick. Without divine transformation, the heart cannot be trusted. This is why even good people sometimes do evil things. The issue is deeper than behavior; the issue is the heart.

Where Evil Begins

Evil doesn’t always come with horns or a frightening face. Sometimes it starts as a quiet thought, a passing suggestion, a little compromise. Satan doesn’t always need a tragedy to pull a person down. Sometimes, all he needs is a thought left unchecked.

It started in the Garden of Eden with Eve. The battle was not with a sword, but with a question in her mind; a seed of doubt. That is still how the enemy operates today. He targets the heart by introducing lies, doubts, fears, and subtle distortions of God’s truth. And once those thoughts are accepted, they begin to shape our decisions.

Jesus, on the other hand, when tempted in the wilderness, overcame because His heart was aligned with the Word of God. He refused to entertain the devil’s lies, and He responded with truth. That’s how the battle was won; not outside, but within.

The Battle Within

The heart is where the Holy Spirit and the sinful nature struggle for control. You feel this conflict every time you want to do good but end up doing otherwise. You feel it when you’re convicted to forgive, but bitterness rises up. The flesh wants to rule, but the Spirit is fighting to lead you into life.

Whatever you feed will grow. When you feed your heart with lustful media, prideful company, or selfish ambition, the flesh takes ground. But when you saturate your heart with God’s Word, with worship, with quiet moments in His presence, the Spirit begins to take over.

The devil doesn’t need to destroy your body to ruin you. If he can win the war in your mind, your body will simply follow. That’s why the Bible says, “Guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it flow the issues of life.” Your peace, your purity, your purpose; they all flow from there.

The Role of the Holy Spirit

When a man is born again, he receives the Holy Spirit. But having the Holy Spirit and yielding to Him are not the same. Many Christians still struggle with sin because, though they have the Spirit, they have not given Him full control. They still make decisions based on their emotions or impulses. They still dwell on thoughts that are toxic to their spiritual growth.

The Holy Spirit wants to take over that battlefield. He wants to convict you when you are drifting. He wants to strengthen you when your flesh feels weak. He wants to guide you when confusion clouds your judgment. He wants to plant godly thoughts, renew your desires, and give you power over the works of the flesh.

But He won’t force Himself. He waits for you to invite Him daily, moment by moment, into the deepest parts of your heart.

Victory Is Possible

Victory in this war is not about perfection, but about surrender. When the enemy comes with thoughts of shame or temptation, we don’t fight with human strength. We overcome by the truth of God’s Word. We speak it. We meditate on it. We believe it. And we keep resisting, even when it feels like we’re failing. The truth is, many battles are lost in moments, but the war is won by persistence.

The man at Gadara was a clear example. Tormented, naked, and chained, no religious ritual could set him free. But when Jesus stepped in, everything changed. The man’s heart, though deeply broken, was no match for the presence and power of Christ.

You don’t have to live in spiritual confusion. You don’t have to remain in secret bondage. You don’t have to pretend to be okay when you’re bleeding inside. Jesus can bring order into that battlefield. He can calm the war, clear the confusion, and bring your heart back under His rule.

What You Must Do

Give God full access to your heart. Stop filtering what you think He can touch. Protect your mind. Watch what you watch. Watch what you listen to. Be careful where you go and who you follow. Evil doesn’t ask for permission before settling in, so you must be on guard.

Discipline your thoughts. When wrong thoughts come, don’t entertain them. Cast them down. Replace them with God’s Word. Don’t wait until they become strongholds. Catch them early. Speak life over your mind. Declare the promises of God out loud. And surround yourself with the right people; people who will remind you of truth when you forget.

You must also stay connected to the Word. The heart is transformed by the renewing of the mind, and that comes through God’s truth. What you meditate on will shape you. What you focus on will form you. Let the Word of God be your daily mirror.

And lastly, walk in the Spirit. Talk to Him. Yield to Him. Listen to His promptings. He’s not far away. He is near, within, and willing to help.

Conclusion

The enemy’s greatest target is your heart. If he can control your thoughts, he can influence your actions. If he can influence your actions, he can hijack your destiny. But God is calling you to rise up and reclaim your heart. To stop living a life driven by emotions, temptations, and lies, and instead live led by the Spirit.

There is hope for you. There is grace available. There is healing for that broken heart. You are not a prisoner of your past or your patterns. With Jesus as Lord and the Holy Spirit as your Helper, you can win this war within.

Today, make that choice. Surrender your heart. Guard it well. And walk every step forward with the awareness that your heart is holy ground; and you will not let the enemy win.

May your heart be filled with light, ruled by Christ, and led by the Spirit, now and always. Amen.
