[International Day Of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression]
TOPIC: WHO THEN CAN BE SAVED?
So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, ‘You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me’ (Luke 18:22).
READ: Luke 18:18-30
[18]. Now a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
[19]. So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.
[20]. You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’ ”
[21]. And he said, “All these things I have kept from my youth.”
[22]. So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
[23]. But when he heard this, he became very sorrowful, for he was very rich.
[24]. And when Jesus saw that he became very sorrowful, He said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!
[25]. For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
[26]. And those who heard it said, “Who then can be saved?”
[27]. But He said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”
[28]. Then Peter said, “See, we have left all and followed You.”
[29]. So He said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God,
[30]. who shall not receive many times more in this present time, and in the age to come eternal life.”
The encounter between Jesus and the rich ruler poses a timeless question: “Who then can be saved?” This inquiry stems from a deep desire for eternal life, echoing through generations. Jesus challenged the ruler to sell everything and follow Him, teaching that salvation hinges on surrendering earthly attachments for eternal treasures.
Like the rich ruler, we struggle with letting go of worldly pursuits that entangle our hearts. Christ’s response underscores the difficulty of parting with these ties, but salvation requires prioritizing God above all else. Divine grace empowers us on this journey, guiding us through the narrow path to eternal life.
Reflecting on this question, we realize that salvation is not earned through transactions but through surrendering to Christ. We must relinquish temporal desires for eternal fulfilment in Him. Let us seek the grace to surrender all and lead others to the truth of salvation in Jesus Christ, so that the world can be rid of aggression against innocent children.
1. Lord, grant me the grace to surrender all and follow You wholeheartedly.
2. Help me, Jesus, to priorities eternal issues over the transient in my life.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
1. Lord, to whom excepts to Thee
Shall our wand’ring spirits go;
Thee Whom it is light to see,
And Eternal Life to know?
Awful is that Life of Thine
Which the Spirit’s Breath inspires;
And the food must be Divine
Which each new-born soul desires.
2. Israel on Heavenly seed
Fed and died in days of yore:
But the souls, that on Thee feed,
Never thirst nor hunger more.
Lord, to whom except to Thee
Shall we go when ills betide?
Who except Thyself can be
Hope and help and strength and guide?
3. Who can cleanse the soul from sin,
Hear the pray’r, and seal the vow?
Who can fill the void within,
Blessed Savior, who but thou?
Therefore evermore I’ll give
Laud and praise, my God, to Thee:
Evermore in Thee I live,
Evermore live Thou in me.
