TOPIC: FREE OR CHEAP SALVATION
MEMORISE: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
READ: Romans 8:30-32
[30]. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.
[31]. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
[32]. He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
EXPOSITION
Often, we misconstrue “free” for “being cheap”, especially in matters of salvation. That a thing is freely given doesn’t necessarily make it very cheap. It is worth mentioning that the most excellent and expensive free gift known, past, present and future in the entire universe, is salvation.
Though free for us, it cost God a lot. It is written, _Those who trust in their wealth and boast in the multitude of their riches, none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him.
For the redemption of their souls is costly, and it shall cease forever_ (Psa. 49:6-8).
The redemption of mankind was carefully thought out, planned, worked for, and executed perfectly by the Most High God Himself.
Therefore, it shouldn’t be taken for granted. Instead, everyone should always be thankful to God and refrain from underestimating His benevolence. Do not think that you can buy, or pay for your redemption through tithing, giving offerings, or any act of service.
While our reasonable service is expected, it cannot pay for salvation, which comes solely by the grace of God.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Thank God for the great gift of salvation in Christ Jesus.
2. Pray for the grace to continue in Christ
3. Lord Jesus, help believers to work out their salvation with fear and trembling to avoid wasting Your grace.
