Ayurveda Centre Promotes Natural Healing in Lagos
The Art of Living Centre Nigeria, also known as Lekki Ashram, has opened a new Ayurveda Centre in Lagos to promote natural healing and holistic medicine.
The initiative aims to reduce dependence on chemical-based treatments and integrate alternative therapies with modern healthcare. It also seeks to promote environmental sustainability and healthier lifestyles through natural and spiritual wellness practices.
Promoting Balance and Well-being
Speaking at the inauguration, the organization’s Global Head of Mission, Mr. Iyke Ohaegbu, said the center would serve as a hub for wellness activities, including yoga, meditation, and breathing exercises designed to relieve stress and improve mental health.
Ohaegbu explained that Ayurveda, a traditional Indian system of medicine, focuses on balancing the mind, body, and spirit. He said the center’s programs such as natural therapies and holistic wellness sessions are tailored to help Nigerians live healthier, more balanced lives.
“Our mission is to promote health and environmental sustainability,” Ohaegbu said. “We want to build partnerships that improve healthcare delivery while reducing chemical use that harms the environment and contributes to climate change.”

Integrating Holistic Medicine into Education
A member of the organisation’s Board of Trustees, Mrs. Julie Van Vleke, described the center as a “timely and courageous initiative,” particularly as Nigerians face growing health and economic pressures.
She revealed that the group is advocating for the introduction of a Bachelor of Ayurveda degree in Nigerian universities equivalent to the MBBS to formally integrate holistic medicine into the nation’s medical education system.
Collaboration and Regulation
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Habeeb Sanni urged stronger collaboration between government agencies and stakeholders to regulate and promote traditional and alternative medicine.
“We are engaging with the Federal Government, the Ministry of Education, and the National Assembly to ensure legal support for the growth of traditional medical systems,” he said.
Sanni praised the center’s launch as a major milestone in Nigeria’s effort to combine ancient healing wisdom with modern healthcare.
