AAR Responds to Claims After Betty Bayo’s Death
Renowned Kenyan gospel singer Betty Bayo, celebrated for her inspiring hit the 11th Hour, passed away on Monday November 10, 2025, after a battle with blood cancer. Her death at the Kenyatta National Hospital sent shockwaves across the country, leaving fans, family and fellow musicians in deep mourning.
In the days after her passing, social media platforms were flooded with claims that AAR Hospital had allegedly denied her treatment because she had not paid a supposed deposit of KSh 260000. The widespread speculation pressured the health facility to release an official statement addressing the concerns.
AAR Hospital Breaks Silence
In a statement released on Thursday November 13, AAR Hospital began by sending condolences to the family, friends and fans of the late gospel minister. The hospital acknowledged the public concern but clarified that many of the stories circulating online were not correct.
The hospital dismissed the allegations as inaccurate and misleading, urging the public to rely on verified information rather than unconfirmed posts on social media.
Did AAR Refuse to Treat Betty Bayo
According to the hospital, Betty Bayo was indeed admitted to AAR Hospital earlier in the month. They explained that she was not denied medical care. Instead, she received critical and emergency treatment during her two days stay.
AAR Hospital went on to clarify that once her condition stabilized and an initial medical assessment was done, Bayo and her family chose to transfer her to another hospital for more specialized care.
The statement read in part that after her initial stabilization and medical assessment the patient and her family later opted to transfer her to another medical facility for further specialized treatment.
The hospital declined to give further information about her condition out of respect for patient confidentiality and medical privacy.

Healthcare costs remain a sensitive issue in Kenya, especially in private hospitals. While some hospitals do require deposits for certain procedures, AAR Hospital insisted that the information being shared about this particular case was either distorted or completely false.
Public Reaction and Online Debate
Social media users responded emotionally to the allegations, with many demanding accountabilities from private healthcare facilities. Influencers and celebrities also joined the discussion, expressing frustration over perceived barriers to accessing quality healthcare.
However, after AAR Hospital issued its clarification, attention began shifting toward the dangers of misinformation and the importance of verifying facts before sharing them online.
