TOPIC: THE BEAUTY OF OUR MOTHER TONGUE
MEMORISE
And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? (Acts 2:8)
READ: Acts 2: 5 – 11
[5] And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.
[6] And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language.
[7] Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans?
[8] And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born?
[9] Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
[10] Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
[11] Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.”
EXPOSITION
Today’s dose of the living water devotional affords us a chance to appreciate the gift of language. Language is more than just a way to communicate — it shapes who we are, connects us to our roots, and helps us understand one another.
In Acts 2:5-11, we see how the Holy Spirit enabled the apostles to speak in different languages, allowing people from many nations to hear the Gospel in their own tongue. This reminds us of the power of language — not just as words, but as a bridge between people, cultures and faith. Our Mother Tongue is often the first way we express love, learn about God and build relationships.
As Christians, we should cherish our own language while also respecting and learning from others. God has given us words not just to speak, but to uplift, encourage and bring unity. When we choose our words with care, we reflect His love and creativity. May we always use language to bring people together, share God’s truth and strengthen those around us.
