Kwara: 38 Kidnapped Worshippers Freed
Thirty-eight worshippers kidnapped from Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State have been successfully rescued. Their release was announced on Sunday by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who confirmed that the victims are now safe after days of coordinated security operations.
Governor AbdulRazaq said the breakthrough followed what he described as President Bola Tinubu’s “hands-on intervention.” According to him, the President personally oversaw efforts to locate and free the abducted church members, even cancelling his planned attendance at the G20 meeting in South Africa to focus on security challenges in Kwara and Kebbi States.

He added that President Tinubu ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to the troubled areas, strengthening ongoing operations. The Governor also acknowledged the support of the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Intelligence Agency, and the Nigeria Police Force, which recently dispatched four tactical units to Kwara on the President’s orders.
Governor AbdulRazaq expressed gratitude to security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and residents for their cooperation throughout the ordeal.
Earlier reports confirmed that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) condemned the attack on CAC Eruku, describing the assault carried out during a prayer service as “heartbreaking and sad.” The incident reportedly left some worshippers dead, with several others abducted, raising renewed concerns about insecurity in vulnerable communities.
