THE LISTENING EAR
MEMORISE: Then she said to her mistress, “If only my master were with the prophet who is in Samaria! For he would heal him of his leprosy.(2 Kings 5:3).
READ: 2 Kings 5:1-14 (NKJV)
EXPOSITION : Naaman’s expectation for healing was that Prophet Elisha would come and heal the leprosy (2 Kings 5:11). However, the path to healing isn’t conventional, proving that God is not geographically immobile. God has chosen the foolish and weak things of the world to put to shame the mighty (1 Corinthians 1:27). Naaman, the commander of the Syrian army, was helped by his servants because he had a listening ear, which aided his healing (vv. 2,13). Also, Saul tilted towards his servants’ recommendations when faced with a distressing spirit from the LORD cf. (1 Samuel 16:16-18).

Some leaders aren’t approachable, while others won’t take the advice of their subordinates. Naaman’s fate would have been otherwise if he hadn’t agreed with the counsel of the young girl and the later intervention of his servants. Listening to subordinates, associates, spouse, etc. in the Lord doesn’t reduce leadership prowess. In Acts 27:11-21, the centurion trusted the helmsman and ship owner more than Paul, leading to disaster and loss. Beware of abandoning the right counsel!
