Police Gun Down Suspected Armed Robber in Lagos Refuse Dump Shootout
A man suspected of armed robbery has been shot dead by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command during a raid on a refuse dump in Abule Egba.
The suspect, identified as Blessing, was reportedly hiding in the Katangua dump when officers moved in at about 1:30 a.m. on Thursday. Sources said the police had tracked him there following intelligence on criminal activity in the area.
On sighting the officers, Blessing allegedly fired several shots. The gunfire was returned, and he was hit during the exchange. He was rushed to a hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin said the raid was carried out after the arrest and interrogation of 43-year-old Yakubu Adeyemi, a suspected member of the same gang. Adeyemi’s confession reportedly led officers to the hideout.
An AK-47 rifle with five rounds of ammunition, a locally made single-barrel gun, and four cartridges were recovered from the scene.
The body of the deceased has been taken to the Mainland Hospital mortuary for autopsy, while a manhunt is underway for other fleeing suspects.
